Already posted my condolences but I thought you might all like to know, on my way back from Wooton Bassett yesterday, I stopped off at Didcot for something to eat in the Prince of Wales pub directly opposite the station, and behind the bar they had a huge picture of Oz. The landlord told me he used to drink in there on a regular basis, in this day and age where a lot of people find it hard to support our troops, I thought it was a very nice touch.

Well done to that Landlord. If I am ever down that way I shall put some of my hard earned brass his way( in return for some falling down water, of course) and drink a toast to a very brave man.

Christina Schmid, wife of Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid made a passionate plea at his funeral today for the British Government to find a peaceful end to the war.
And my prayers go with her.

I echo Geoff's sentiments. May Christina's appeal to our peacemakers, as she called them, be heard and acted upon.

I had the Honour to attend the Funeral of OZ today.  it was a very emotional service carried out with great dignity and precision.

The Cathedral was full to overflowing with people of all ages,  My Old Comrades Branch attended with Standard Bearer,

I have my copy of the Service Sheet which I will send to anyone who will make me an offer with cash received going to H4H.

Highest bid by Sunday 2100hrs will secure

If Mike can organise a consolidated bid from as many members of the on-line guys as possible, I am prepared to put £5 in the pot.

Was unable to attend this funeral due to my wife taking ill.  Gutted.

Sleep sound Oz.  Save me a place at the bar.  You have done your time in hell.

Since the death of this brave young man I have been thinking I know this man but until I found williemortons link I was hoping in a strange way that i was mistaken, but alas after seeing the interview with him on the link I knew straight away it was the same young man who was my young thrusting Cpl in Bosnia in late 2002 .
He has remained in my memory for the enthusiasm he showed even then for his work.
I remember how he pestered me to write to his controllers in UK to get him short toured so he would be available for Iraq.
Alas they said no but I was glad, he was to good a Cpl to lose.
He always gave 100% and was a real character.
Every day as he came into the office he would shout out 'coffee boss'.
I feel a real loss as I got to know him really well as you do on these outpost detachments.
I feel for his young family what a stalwart his wife is.
Knowing him then and seeing how he turned out to be such a great man makes me very proud to have served with such a giant of a man.
