 Heres Alan  Crofts getting into his Bedford these trucks looked massive to us young lads in them days

A cracking photo Stewart and it reminds me of my basic B3 driver training, albeit in Germany.
Interesting that the truck is displaying an ordinary L plate which was replaced by the HGV L plate not very long afterwards for the same type of truck when the HGV licence was introduced.

Which part of 69 was that, I did my driver training at Blackdown in May/June of the same year.

 Hi Malcolm it must have been about Feb March 69 as we did our form up in late December 68,

them trucks looked like monsters and so did the 10 toners to me when I go to Germany there was some real big trucks

Settle what Gus? The white 'band' you refer to was designed to carry the unit title but was an unofficial mark.

     well Ivan.   some one online was on about this subject tac signs     all RAOC vehicles had red/blue/red with white bar on top designating unit on off side back and front     near side was command flash

That's right Gus. I was just clarifying that not all unit vehicles had the white strip or unit title when the tac transfer came into use. This was usually down to the lack of a signwriter/handyman within the unit/garrison.

    well Ivan.   all our vehicles had red/blue/red white bar with Palestine -614 AOD  Cyprus was- 301 MLBU  Eygpt was 5 BOD      614 had a DAGGER on near side F&B  5BOD - had a CAMEL B&F    301 was Lion B&F
